Point of View - Senior Graphic Design Exhibition

Project Type: Exhibition
Role: Lead merch designer & member of physical marketing team
Point Of View was an exhibition created by the graphic design class of 2025 to showcase our work from previous years and our internship work from the summer. The goal of showcasing our work was to show the change and development of our graphic design skills. The showcase also aimed to challenge the expectations and preconceived notions of what a "graphic designer" is. The entire class spent the fall 2024 semester ideating, planning, and designing a showcase that we named Point of View, or POV for short. Our main slogan was "we are more than you think" and much of our branding involved challenging stereotypes and poking fun at the way people treat graphic designers. The tone of our showcase was more on the humorous and playful side, with bright colors, sarcastic or joking phrases, and more dynamic and outside the box photography and design.
My Portrait & Interview

Merchandise Design
Creating merchandise for our showcase was an important part of the process. I was mostly in charge of the merch, though the final designs and colors chosen was a group effort and then agreed upon by the whole class. I contacted a vendor to print the merch and was the main communicator with them throughout the entire process. Though it was difficult to please everyone in the class and also to communicate with a vendor, I was extremely pleased with the outcome of the merch and feel proud to wear it even after the exhibition was over.
Posters & Flyers
As part of the physical marketing team, we created physical invitations to give to faculty and students, the flyers that we put up all over campus, the posters that we got displayed in the HUB, and the merchandise that people could purchase. Using our poster and flyer designs, we could decorate the inside of our building. While in other places on campus the flyers and posters were displayed normally, we had more fun with them in our building. We overlapped flyers and completely covered windows and bulletin boards which not only aided in our exhibition theme but also drew a lot of attention to our event.

Showcase Booth
Once we were assigned a spot in the studio for our booth, we could display our projects and personal items that represent us as designers. We also created a poster that was meant to show our growth during our time at Penn State. My poster reflected the fear and uncertainty I experienced going into college and how my present self has changed for the better through my time here. During our showcase, we were encouraged to wear the outfits from our portraits on the day our family and Penn State alumni were invited to visit while on the other days we wore the merch that was created as well.
